New gardens open

Most of us associate Florence with the art and architecture of the Renaissance. Not many people visit the city for its gardens but Florence is blessed with some horticultural delights. The Boboli Gardens behind the Pitti Palace are the most famous but the lesser known Bardini gardens have now reopened having been restored and replanted.

Connected to the Boboli Gardens but dating back to the middle ages they have plants, shrubs and herbs as well as baroque statues, grottoes, fountains and even a amphitheatre. They also offer great views across the city and, because they're less well known than the Boboli gardens, they are certain to be less crowded than their celebrated neighbours.
