Our Guides

Florence
We only had a long weekend to do the city and so your tour really helped us get our bearings. There's just so much to see there! I know we only scraped the surface but it worked really well for us.
Tanya Ellison - (27/08/06)

Venice
This was a great tour that took you everywhere you needed to go. Particularly liked the walk through of the mosaic frescoes on the front of the Basilica. We had a great time in Venice, made all the more special by this evocative guide. Like the speaker's voice too - one of the best I've listened to.
Andrea How - (19/02/06)

AMSTERDAM - more art than just Rembrandt

On the weekend of 26 and 27 November, the prestigious Rijksakademie will open its doors to the public for an exclusive exhibition – OPEN2011.

As we say in our Amsterdam iPod tour, the city has a great artistic heritage - and that doesn't just mean Rembrandt, even though we do talk about him in our Amsterdam mp3 tour.

This is a great opportunity to look behind the doors of this exclusive building and view some of the best art the Netherlands has to offer.

All the resident artists at the Rijksakademie will present themselves and their work during the OPEN2011 exhibition. The artists work across numerous artistic genres including: painting, drawing, photography, graphics, sculpture, video and film, sound and new media.

The artists also link up with other disciplines including architecture, theatre, music, dance and literature. As well as viewing complete works, visitors can take a peek at works in progress, see group presentations, special projects and performances and get involved in discussions. Artworks will be presented in both traditional and unexpected forms inside and outside of the building.

Alongside the OPEN2011 exhibition, the academy will host the 3 Days of A event. The work of at least 30 Rijksakademie alumni will be on show outside the academy building.

The Rijksakadamie

The academy is home to 53 talented domestic and international artists who develop their work to the highest level during two years at the institution. Work by Rijksakademie alumni can be found in prestigious private collections, galleries and museums both in the Netherlands and abroad.

The name Rijksakademie (1870) refers to the classical Academia, a place where philosophers, academics and artists met to test and exchange ideas and knowledge.
