Our Guides

Florence
We only had a long weekend to do the city and so your tour really helped us get our bearings. There's just so much to see there! I know we only scraped the surface but it worked really well for us.

Venice
This was a great tour that took you everywhere you needed to go. Particularly liked the walk through of the mosaic frescoes on the front of the Basilica. We had a great time in Venice, made all the more special by this evocative guide. Like the speaker's voice too - one of the best I've listened to.

BARCELONA - Gaudi cathedral prepares for first service

After over a century of building which has been interrupted by wars, financial crises, arguments over design, technical problems and, of course, the death of its architect, Antoni Gaudi, in 1926, Barcelona’s great Sagrada Familia cathedral is nearly ready to host its first service.
Next summer the roof of the apse will be put into place, allowing a service to take place.  The cathedral itself will not be completed for some years afterwards – perhaps even by 2026 to mark the centenary of Gaudi’s death.
It might appear vast and imposing and it’s certainly one of the most famous churches in the world, but the idea behind the Sagradia Familia is actually very modest and simple.
Its proper name is the Temple of Atonement of the Sacred Family and it was commissioned by Josep Bocabella, a Barcelonese entrepreneur.  A deeply religious man, Bocabella wanted to build a new church in Barcelona to atone for what he saw as the city's wicked ways - its love of money and material things.  He believed that a renewed devotion to the Holy Family was essential to make the world a better place.
You can find out more about the Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudi and the design movement that he lead in our guide to Barcelona’s Eixample or extension.  Click here for more details.
