Our Guides

Florence
We only had a long weekend to do the city and so your tour really helped us get our bearings. There's just so much to see there! I know we only scraped the surface but it worked really well for us.

Venice
This was a great tour that took you everywhere you needed to go. Particularly liked the walk through of the mosaic frescoes on the front of the Basilica. We had a great time in Venice, made all the more special by this evocative guide. Like the speaker's voice too - one of the best I've listened to.

BERLIN - New exhibition of degenerate art

A selection of sculptures that were banished by the Nazis is to go on display in Berlin at the Neue Museum which features on our Berlin mp3 tour.

Hitler described work that didn’t conform to his Aryan ideas as entartetekunst or ‘degenerate art’.  Sculptures by Jews, communists and surrealists as well other modern artists were considered unfit to be shown in public galleries.  “They were,” Hitler said when he ordered them to be put away forever, “a mockery of German culture and leading the country to cultural extermination.”

The new exhibition features sculptures from 1918 to 1930 and it’s being timed to coincide with the anniversary of the 9th November anti-Semitic pogroms of 1938 during Hitler’s rise to power.

As we say in our Berlin audio tour, the German capital has a vast range of galleries, may of them either on museum island or near the Tiegarten such as the Gemeldegalerie with its collection of Old Masters including Titian, Frans Hals and Reynolds and also the Neue Nationalgalerie which has works by Dali, Magritte and American painters like Barnet Newman.
