Our Guides

Florence
We only had a long weekend to do the city and so your tour really helped us get our bearings. There's just so much to see there! I know we only scraped the surface but it worked really well for us.

Venice
This was a great tour that took you everywhere you needed to go. Particularly liked the walk through of the mosaic frescoes on the front of the Basilica. We had a great time in Venice, made all the more special by this evocative guide. Like the speaker's voice too - one of the best I've listened to.

PARIS - Gruesome show at the Musee DOrsay

Violence, crime and execution are the themes of a new exhibition which is has just opened at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, which features in our Paris mp3 guide.

Images of murder, decapitation, hanging and stoning by artists including Picasso, Magritte, Warhol and Goya form part of this grisly new show at one of Paris’s most elegant art galleries.  Paintings and sketches depicting these horrible subjects have been borrowed by the museum from galleries and private collections around the world.

But perhaps the most shocking exhibit is the last working guillotine which was used as recently as 1977 for the execution of a murderer.

As we say in our guide to Paris, the city might be one of the most elegant in the world but it is not above the occasional bit of violence.  Riots, demonstrations and attacks on the police have figured heavily from the revolutions of the nineteenth century right through the disturbances of 1967.

But the museum has its own scandalous side.  Originally it was a station - the Gare d'Orsay - which served the south of France amongst other areas.  The idea was that French MPs could dash out of their offices in the Assemblée Nationale, along an underground passage way on a Friday afternoon and get a train to their villas by the seaside.
