Our Guides

Florence
We only had a long weekend to do the city and so your tour really helped us get our bearings. There's just so much to see there! I know we only scraped the surface but it worked really well for us.

Venice
This was a great tour that took you everywhere you needed to go. Particularly liked the walk through of the mosaic frescoes on the front of the Basilica. We had a great time in Venice, made all the more special by this evocative guide. Like the speaker's voice too - one of the best I've listened to.

VIENNA - Muehl exhitition extended

The Otto Muehl exhibition at the Leopold Museum has been extended.  It will now run until January 2011 instead of October this year.  The Leopold Museum is one of the main Vienna tourist attractions and anyone looking for ideas for a Vienna city break should head there.  It features on our Vienna mp3 guide to the Imperial city

Otto Muehl might not be a household name but he is popular amongst fans of modern art for his large canvasses depicting modern icons and images.

This exhibition includes around 80 large-format oil and acrylic paintings as well as 20 works on paper from the years between 1962 and 2000.  The exhibition’s highlight is the Vincent series of 1984.
With this series, which harkens back to Van Gogh, the Muehl makes use of the stylistic forms which underlie famous works of his artistic forbears.  But he does not imitate, instead he paraphrases, thereby lending the old forms new meaning and energy.  The effect of these paintings is powerful, lively and often brutally unconventional. They are convincing not only in terms of their form and colouration, but are also original, humorous and spontaneous, uninhibited in their depictions and springing from an energetic impetus.

Muehl’s uncompromising modernism might seem odd placed in a city such as Vienna with its class elegance but, as we point out in our Vienna walking tour, the city has always been the centre of exciting new artistic ideas.

We also point out in our much read city guide blog mp3cityguides that Vienna has long had the power to shock.
